With the close of offseason workouts the Miami Dolphins are no closer to naming a starting quarterback. Miami head coach Tony Sparano said he was in no rush to name his starter and it might be very deep into August until his starter is named. The three candidates are veteran Josh McCown, second year man John Beck and Michigan rookie second round pick Chad Henne. McCown has been in the league for 6 years all with losing teams. McCown is 12-19 in 31 lifetime starts. Beck struggled last season with only 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions and 5 lost fumbles in 4 starts. Beck showed a strong commitment to the team in the offseason spending up to 5 days a week since January working on his mechanics. Henne got fewer reps during the workouts and looks more like the #3 quarterback as training camp opens in late July.
The Dolphins open the season Sunday September 7th at home against their division rival the New York Jets. The Dolphins are currently a 3-point home underdog in their opener. Oddsmakers have made the Dolphins a 150 to 1 longshot to win Super Bowl 43.
