Is Another Upset in the cards for Tale of Ekati?

Placing fourth in the Kentucky Derby, Tale of Ekati is pointed for the Belmont Stakes. The colt’s trainer is Barclay Tagg, who ironically took both legs of the Triple Crown five years ago training Funny Cide. The New York based trainer was denied a Triple Crown in 2003 as his Preakness and Kentucky Derby winner finished 4th in the Belmont Stakes.
So what’s there to like in Tagg’s three-year-old possible entrant into the Belmont Stakes? Well for starters, Tale of Ekati is bred to handle the grueling 1-and-a-half-mile journey. His bloodline is tied to Sunday Silence, who has fathered marathon-turf-runners in Japan. Also his granddaddy Storm Cat has sired multiple grade-1-winners who have gone on to earn over 100-million-dollars. Last year, his 1-half-million-dollar stud fee was tied-for-first in the world.
Big Brown’s breeding suggests he may not be able to handle the long distance of the Belmont. If Big Brown is engaged in a speed-duel up-front, it could set-up for a late runner and ........
