Minor Injury to Big Brown

Big Brown’s connections reported last Sunday that their Preakness and Kentucky Derby winner suffered a minor injury on Friday. Big Brown developed a slight quarter-crack on the inside of his left hoof. Trainer Richard Dutrow eased concerns, noting that since the injury was minor and diagnosed early, it should have neither impact on his workout next week or on his Belmont Stakes. The Belmont Stakes favorite will miss some days in his preparation, but according to his trainer the missed time is no issue with his race coming up on June 7th.

With the Belmont Stakes a little more than two weeks away, Big Brown’s trainer Richard Dutrow voiced his plans for his colt this season. Some had feared if Big Brown was to capture the Triple Crown, he would immediately retire to stud. The trainer said Big Brown was likely to race after the Belmont. The plans called for Big Brown’s entry into the Travers Stakes and the Breeders Cup Classic.
