Down 20 with 18 minutes left in the game you would think the defending champions San Antonio Spurs would go up 1-0 in this series. But an offensive meltdown by the Spurs allowed the Lakers to comeback for a victory. The Spurs shot 3-21 in the fourth quarter and didn’t take it the rim aggressively. Manu Ginobili was just 3-13 from the field and Phil Jackson had the younger Sasha Vujacic on him. Phil Jackson labeled Sasha’s game 1 effort as one of his best defensive games of his career. The positive the Spurs can take out from this game is the fact the Lakers were held to their lowest scoring output of the season scoring only 89 points. You would have expected at least a 30+ scoring quarter when you make up a 20 point second half deficit but the Lakers highest scoring quarter was 24 in the fourth quarter. The Lakers were also held to their lowest shooting percentage of the playoffs hitting on 43.2% of their shots. I am going with the zig zag theory in game 2 playing on the losing team this deep in the playoffs. You might be able to fall behind 2-0 to the Hornets but you don’t want to be down 2-0 to the Lakers.
