Description

The 39th annual World Series of Poker is set to begin on May 30th with the Main Event scheduled to kickoff on July 3rd. Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack announced an interesting twist for the final table this year. When the field plays down to the final 9 contestants, there will be a break of 117 days. The break is to support ESPN Television who will offer same day coverage of the final table. The poker blogs and poker publications have been updating fans in recent years with thorough coverage of the event. Now they can report hand-by-hand results and post feature stories about the participants months before the telecast. The Final Table will now have buildup and WSOP management is hoping to include more drama and interest for it’s telecast.

The change will give players the opportunity to gain more publicity for his or her final table appearance and line their pockets with more sponsorship money leading up to the broadcast. One of the notable professionals who is very happy with the format change is Danny Negreanu. He was quoted as saying that it will be a huge step for televised poker because the event will have more buzz and more importantly more mainstream media coverage.......
