There will be no Kentucky Derby starters entered for the133rd running of the Preakness Stakes as Illinois Derby winner Recapturetheglory caught a fever and was put on the shelf. Newbies have not fared well at the Preakness as only 6 runners since 1970 have skipped the Kentucky Derby and won the second jewel of horseracings Triple Crown. Big Brown’s trainer Rick Dutrow [Dut-row] is confident about his horse’s chances acknowledging the less than stellar field shaping up for the Preakness and stating his horse is the fastest set for the race. Dutrow put his colt through light training in preparation for the Preakness Stakes and reported that his champion is in very good condition.
Pimlico’s linesmaker Frank Carulli suggested that Big Brown would most likely open up at below even money when he sets the track odds for the Preakness. Fusaichi [Fu-see-ah-chi] Pegasus was the biggest favorite ever in the Preakness returning only .30 cents for every dollar wagered. With such short odds expected on Big Brown race fans might want to consider handicapping a superfecta. The average return in the Preakness Stakes for a $1 dollar superfecta wager has returned 6 grand. Nice!
