Even as the post time 2 to 1 favorite, Big Brown overcame the odds to win the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby. Heading into Saturday’s race only 3 favorites have won in the last 21 races and only 1 horse has ever won breaking from postposition #20. And probably the biggest obstacle was the fact that Big Brown was the first horse since 1915 to win the Kentucky Derby with just 3-life time starts heading into the race.
Big Brown will enter the Preakness once again as the favorite and favorites have done well in the second leg of the Triple Crown. Favorites have won the Preakness Stakes 9 of the last 21 races. The race favors front-runners and is a perfect fit for the style of Big Brown who likes to run at or near the lead. The talk heading into the Preakness is the lack of Kentucky Derby runners who will face Big Brown on May 17th. Big Brown impressed his rivals by beating the Colts entered in the Kentucky Derby by 8 lengths or better. That has left many of the connections from the Kentucky Derby Field talking layoff for their horses.
The unfortunate event at the end of the Kentucky
