On HBO welterweight Miguel Cotto who many feel is being ducked by Floyd Mayweather Jr will face Alfonso Gomez. Gomez is the fighter who sent Arturo Gatti into retirement and split two fights with Peter Manfredo. Oh ya, Gomez also starred in the reality based boxing series “The Contender”. Cotto is sitting at a huge favorite at –1150 while you can take Gomez as a huge underdog at +750. Cotto is 31-0 in his career and has wins over Shane Moseley and Zab Judah. Cotto is looking for that multi million-dollar payday with a fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Cotto must simply win impressively against every opponent in front of him to get interest higher and higher for a Mayweather/Cotto fight. Mayweather Jr. will say yes when the money is at a point where he can’t refuse. Gomez doesn’t possess the power to beat Cotto and his fight style will put him face to face with Cotto. This looks like the perfect opponent for Cotto to get a KO win and KO’s are what get people pay big PPV dollars to see. The over under round prop is set at 9 ½ rounds with the under favored at –150 and the over coming back at +130. I like Cotto here and under 9 ½ rounds but not a good betting fight having to bet on such bad numbers for each side. Pass from a betting perspective but watch the fight because Gomez wont run and will go toe to toe with Cotto making this an action packed bout.
